Hillclimb History
The Mt. Washington Auto Road was opened in August 1861, a little over 100 years before the first official Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb race starting cannon was fired. Built by hand, the road climbs over 4,000 feet of elevation in 7.6 miles from the base.
